Tracy & Steve: A Wedding

054

This past Saturday, one of my dearest friends  (I’ve known her since elementary school!) got married. It’s been a while since I’ve attended a friend’s wedding (as opposed to family, which is still fun, but not the same kind of fun) and it was truly a blast. What’s better than watching your friend marry their best friend, then follow it up with drinks and dancing?
Not many things.

Friends waiting for the big moment!

003

We all agreed she looked stunning. Everything was flattering…the dress, the hair (she wore this awesome headband under the veil), the makeup. Absolutely gorgeous.

005

MARRIED! And sneaking a peek at us.

006

The lot of us at cocktail hour, waiting not-so-patiently for the bar to open (I rarely get group photos, so I cherish this one immensely! Everyone is visible and looks amazing!!).

007

Why yes, I will post an obligatory cute photo of me and my love.

008

The lovely table setting.

Welcome the newlyweds!

Crazy boys.

It was such a great time! I love celebrating love, especially with people I love.

VIP: A Letter to my Friends and Family

005
Today, I am writing this very important post because a recent loss has, as it usually does, made me realize the fragility of life and the importance of living it to the best of your abilities. It’s sad that it often takes something tragic or heartbreaking to realize this, but it is an undeniable part of living.

I wanted to write a letter to my friends and family, to all of you who know who you are or maybe you don’t, to tell you just how much I care about you. It may sound cheesy, but it’s something that needs to be said, even just this once.

As I get older, I see the way relationships change. Some grow stronger, some slip away, some start, and some end. I’m still at the stage where I struggle to understand it, but I’m close enough to a time where I accept it as a part of the process. Regardless of the status of our relationship, I promise you that it means so much to me.

Sometimes I feel alone. Sometimes I have pity parties and think about how I don’t have any friends and my life isn’t like the movies, books, and TV shows I read. But whose is? At the end of the day, I can name people who have made an impact on my life, people I can still talk to today.

To my friends: Wow. I don’t know how I got lucky enough to have people who not only tolerate my quirks but openly welcome them into their lives. There is distance. There are opposing schedules. There are spaces and gaps that keep us apart. There’s the other parts of life, the working and the thriving, that take up a lot of our time. But I love you. I haven’t forgotten any of you, even if it’s been months or, heck, years since I saw you. There isn’t a day that goes by where you don’t pop into my head. I could (and should) text or call or correspond in some way, but it seems none of us have the time to do these things. And that’s okay. I am okay with it and I hope you are, too. The fact is, I love you.
I love you for being there for so many years or months or weeks. I am thankful for those of you who have known me since I was even more awkward than I still am today. I am thankful for the people who made the worst jokes with me and laughed forever about them. I am thankful for laying on floors and not understanding how to work basic household appliances. I am thankful for long rides in my boat of a Buick and all of the music we screamed along to. I am thankful for hours of mindless TV and Mario Kart and weekly routines and funfetti cake and 40s and getting my face sticky with deodorant and sharing bathrooms and taking embarrassing photos that never get old.
There are some people I never thought I would be friends with, and I can say proudly that we have become friends.
There are people I met who I just clicked with and that was it, forever.
There are people I’ve only been a handful of times but have inspired me.
There are people I’ve only ever really spoken to through social media and I look forward to hearing from them.
And, of course, there are people that I miss, that I sometimes wonder why things didn’t work out. Still, there is never ill will or bad blood. To those people, I still think the best. I still remember laying in bed watching TV, sharing snacks and stories and good music. I still care about you. I always will. I won’t forget. I obviously haven’t.
I don’t say it enough, but I love you. I do. I am thankful. Just remember that, no matter who you are or what you think our status in life is, you really, truly made an impact on me.

To my family: Just as with friends, we aren’t always together as much as we used to be. I should really make more time. And I’ll say it all the time, but I know it might not happen because, in a way, I’m kind of working on my future family.
Still, I have been so lucky to have such supportive blood running through my veins. My memories of childhood are filled with swimming and cookouts and Sunday brunch and holidays and sleepovers. Even the rough times have some brightness to them. I know this isn’t the case for many families, and I am forever grateful that I grew up around funny, loving, crazy, awesome people. There isn’t much else to say…you are my family, and so I love you.
I was born that way.

Life is too fast and too short, and sometimes it’s even faster and shorter than you deserve.
We will undoubtedly forget to be thankful on the rough days, to remember to say I love you because we are pissed off or stuck in our heads. That is just how life is. It’s unfortunate, but it can’t be any other way.

I just wanted you to know, for the record, just in case but all the time: I love you and I’m glad I know you.

Valentine’s Day in Paradise

21414(4))

I’m not going to be one of those people who complains about Valentine’s Day. I love getting into most holidays, probably as a by-product of my sister’s enthusiasm for decorations and themed sweet treats. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, I think it’s fun to celebrate the love you have in your life. Obviously, you should do it all the time. And I don’t think you should ever have to feel obligated on one day to show that, because it usually sets you up for failure. Since I was in Riviera Maya for the holiday this year, it wasn’t a priority at all.
However, Brad had requested that we get to have dinner alone and spend some time just to ourselves.
The day started off perfectly with a nice breakfast and a flower from one of the kind waiters.

One of the “a la carte” restaurants that we were able to attend for free was a steak place, so we decided to make that our date night pick. It’s an open-air place by the pools, and it was the perfect night to enjoy the breeze. When we walked over, I got to see a full moon hanging over the ocean (I know the last picture is blurry, but I still love it) and enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing. I had to take some pictures. Brad was in line to put our names in, so I experienced this myself. It was a great moment of appreciating my life and my surroundings.

We decided to purchase a bottle of wine, a tasty cabernet sauvignon that was perfect with our meal.
A toast, some conversation by candle light, and paradise surrounding us.
What more could you ask for on Valentine’s Day?

A Great Weekend for a Wedding

This past weekend was gorgeous. Sunny, warm…the perfect springtime weather.
Which also meant it was the perfect weekend for a beautiful weekend. My friends Mark and Amanda got married at the lovely
Holly Hedge Estate in New Hope and the place is so pretty and dreamy and quiet and quaint.
The ceremony was outdoors and I didn’t need tights or a jacket! Amazing.
Here are some photos from the wedding.

I have a ridiculous amount of photos.
On our way home on Sunday, Lauren, Brad, and I stopped by Peddler’s Village. We were very tired and pretty hungover (come on, it was a wedding after all! Open bar!), but it was the perfect weather so we had to stop by. I am so glad we got to check it out.
And I have tons of photos from that….but I’ll save that for later.

Currently, I’m resting. We took a vacation day and I am so glad. I knew I’d need the recuperation!
Have a happy Monday!

Dinner Last Night: Valentine’s Edition

024

I had an excellent Valentine’s Day! Did you?
I decided to make London Broil for my family, a step up from the usual tacos and soups (like I mentioned yesterday) and we enjoyed it with wine, my green bean recipe, and a fresh tossed salad! Oh, and of course some red wine!
Brad came to join us and it’s always so excellent to have him around my parents and my sister. I love how well he fits in, and I loved that we all sat at the table (we have a tendency to park in front of the television with our meals and not really talk) enjoying food and company.

I am so blessed that I have a great family, a sister I can call my best friend, caring and funny parents…and I am so glad I have Brad and that he fits in with us and vice versa (I feel very comfortable around his family). I bought everyone a little present (some Orla Kiely note cards for mom, tea for sister, and my dad’s favorite gums and cinnamon candies) and treated everyone to a great meal. (Brad deserves the credit for the perfectly cooked meat…not sure if I could’ve done it on my own…I’ll have to do it next time!)

Are you ready for the weekend?
I so am. Last week was so long, this one definitely made up for it. It’s already Friday and I have a 3 day weekend thanks to President’s Day.
I plan on getting a haircut, enjoying an anniversary/Valentine’s dinner with Brad, and sleeping in as long as I can without wasting the day.

Have a great weekend, folks!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

hearts

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…Valentine’s Day isn’t my favorite holiday and I don’t believe it’s an important holiday either. Anything that makes people feel bad for being alone is silly…however, I think it should be reserved for all kinds of love. Besides, who doesn’t love pink and red and hearts and vintage cards and chocolates and sweet treats? I am beyond blessed and lucky that I have Brad in my life, but no matter what, I’d celebrate the love in my life (family/friends/etc.) , no matter what form it took.

Tonight, I am cooking a dinner for my family. I got my tax refund and, since I have a little extra cash, I plan on getting some steak and green beans and potatoes and salad and making a really big meal (with wine to drink, of course). I cook dinner every Thursday that I can, but I don’t want to just make tacos or pasta like usual. I am blessed with all the love in my life, and I appreciate it as much and as often as I can, but today especially I want to put forth that little extra effort.

I hope you enjoy your day, whether you are spending it with your partner, your parents, your best friend, your puppy, or your favorite movie and some wine. That’s what it’s all about.

This Saturday, I got to celebrate the wedding of my friends Crystal and Alex! It was such a beautiful affair.
And I had an absolute blast drinking and dancing in celebration with my beloved friends.

27 reasons I love this 27 year old…

bjb

Today is my boyfriend Brad’s 27th birthday! I have so many pictures, but I had a lot of fun looking at ones from late 2010/early 2011, and seeing how much we’ve both changed (now I’m the 25 year old!). I am a super duper lucky girl to have such a wonderful guy. And I’m excited to celebrate 27 with him, and many more years to come. For now, here’s a cheesy list of 27 things I love about Brad.

His generosity and love for helping people.
His creativity and success in all that he attempts to do.
His drive and ambition to make a better life and do what he loves.
His sense of humor, which surprises me and makes me laugh everyday.
He looks super cute in cardigans.
His supportive nature, and the encouragement he always gives to make things happen.
His amazing and imaginative cooking skills (dinner is hardly ever disappointing).
He is adventurous and always willing to try new things.
He puts up with me hogging the bed.
He does silly accents that make me laugh forever.
I don’t usually have to tell him what I would like at the moment, he just knows.
His extensive knowledge of cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants.
He is so great with kids.
He has so much respect for his family, and for mine, and we’ve become a part of each other’s.
You can put him in any social setting and he will find people to talk to, make it fun, and have a blast.
He looks forward to a great future.
It is very rare you will find him in a bad mood. It’s strange when he is.
Best cuddler ever ever ever.
He gets excited about my creative ideas, and always tries to push me forward (even though I hardly listen).
He is honest and trustworthy.
He has the most well-made, humorous videos from his teenage years that MUST BE PUT ON YOUTUBE SOON.
He invited me to Lake Seneca back in 2008 when we had only known each other about two weeks and I fell in love with wine.
He obliges me when I start to plan an imaginary wedding.
He’s a hugger. If you know him, you’re probably gonna get hugged by him a lot.
We can be in the same room, doing our own thing, and be completely content.
He still opens the car door for me on date nights.

And finally….
He is 100% completely, unabashedly, and always himself.

Love you, Brad! Happy birthday! I’m so glad you were born.

Bridal Shower

068

Brad’s cousin is marrying the cutest, sweetest little lady I ever did meet. I’ve only known Rebecca a little while, but it’s hard not to fall right in love with her. I am so excited to watch her and Shawn, Brad’s cousin, get married in October. They are truly best friends and it is so great to see a couple that lovely and happy come together for the long haul. Until then, it was fun celebrating her upcoming nuptials at this extremely beautiful bridal shower. Rebecca works on party/wedding planning, so it was no surprise that every detail was handled impeccably.
And it doesn’t hurt that she’s a fun gal who knows how to throw a good party.

Delicious food, peach sangria, a raffle (I actually won a “Beer Basket,” an Igloo cooler filled with some Leinenkugel brews, a pack of cards, some dice, and Koozies for both cans and bottles…all good things!) and the sweetest Pre-Newlywed game. Thumbs up all around!

From the top:
Me with the bride-to-be and Brad’s mom.
A table decorated with bamboo plants and candles floating in water filled with pebbles.
The delicious drink special, a peach sangria.
The fun menu (the food was amazing!!!).
Our favors: A mini bamboo plant and a jar of s’mores goodies.
Bubble lights and bridal tapestries.
Rebecca with some of her bridal party, giving a beautiful speech.
A HUGE sweets table with different goodies from friends and family.
During their Pre-Newlywed game, when asked who is smarter, they both said the other! Such a sweet moment.
The cute centerpiece at the bridal party table.

I can’t help but take notes for my future wedding. I don’t plan on getting married anytime soon, but weddings are a beautiful thing and it’s nice to daydream about. And of course, I have a Pinterest board dedicated to the subject.
One day…

48 Hours to Celebrate

weekend

What a happy weekend filled with love and celebration!
Let me break it down for ya…

Friday was my friend Lauren’s birthday. She planned a little gathering for it on Saturday, but I went over with a bottle of wine and watched the ickiest movie ever and got crazy wine drunk with my favorite housemates. On Saturday, I got to witness two friends (who have been dating 9 years, the bride being a friend of mine since 5th grade) get married. It was so lovely and also surreal. People I know are starting to get married! I mean, we all saw it coming and I couldn’t be happier for them! But I just can’t believe I’m at that stage. It’s exciting and weird.
After the wedding, I headed back to Kingston for Lauren’s birthday party. Her parents decorated the deck with all kinds of beautiful garden furniture, candles, lamps, and lights. It was the perfect way to celebrate one of my bestest friends in the whole world.

I have been truly blessed and lucky to have an excellent summer this year. I have great friends who all get along, especially with my boyfriend and my sister! Which is super important and awesome for me. I couldn’t be happier.
It’s always sad to say goodbye to a weekend, but I can’t stay sad long. I just know there are more great days to come.

Here’s to a stress-free week!
