Happy Friday!

Well, folks, we made it to the end of the week! How? Not so sure. I think the reason my week went quickly and without a hitch is because I spent most of it with Brad. I’m used to seeing him on the weekends, but I got to spend several nights sleeping in his huge comfy bed and eating out for dinner every night we were together. I promise I’ll pick up better eating and exercise habits soon (maybe)!

Here are some Hipstamatic photos of Wednesday night’s dinner. We caught the tail end of Happy Hour at Bar Louie, a restaurant inside the casino. I wanted to play 10 dollars on a penny slot to see if I could win enough money to pay for dinner. I quadrupled my money (i.e. went up to $41), so I bought Brad and I a chip and dip app (which we quickly inhaled), a couple of draft beers (Woodchuck for me) and some delectably tasty burgers. Man, I love the casino (for multiple reasons).

Nothing planned for the weekend yet…but that always changes quickly. Hopefully the weather will finally pick up…and STAY UP. I’m so ready for spring! And I have been for weeks now. I’m so sick of wearing my long black puffy coat. BLEH!

To kick off your weekend, here’s an excellent song by Casiokids, whom I was very lucky to see last week!
Hope your weekend (and everyday) is filled with happy tunes and dancing your worries away!

Last Friday

We have already made it to the last stretch of the week. Usually I’m happy about this, but MY WORD! The days have been going by especially fast lately. Ouch. Last weekend is still so strong in my mind. I can’t shake the wonderful experiences I had. I only hope for more in the future.

I don’t always lug the Rebel with me, but I’m so glad I did. The pictures are a little sloppy…mind you the show didn’t even start until 10 and I danced my butt off until about 2 am, so I wasn’t really concerned with quality. But the fact that I can come back to these pictures and remember the fantastic music and carefree feel of the night really is worth so much to me…

Definitive Music

We all have favorite bands and singers that we continue to follow throughout their career and our lives. But what about particular albums that stand out, whether or not we continue to follow the artist? I definitely believe that everyone has a few albums that define a time in their lives. One song can transport you back to those days emotionally and mentally. I have quite a few of these. A “For Instance” would be Ace of Base’s album The Sign, which is one of the first cassette tapes we ever bought and that my sister and I tortured my parents with on our first ever family vacation to the Jersey Shore. But the one I’ve had in my mind lately is Carina Round’s album The Disconnection. I never got into any of her other music (maybe I should try…), but this 9-track album is one of my favorites from start to finish. When I first heard it, I was days away from starting my senior year of high school. Summer was ending. I was falling in love for the first time. I was growing up little by little, with future planning to consider. My sister had heard Carina Round’s music on some late night TV show and bought it without hearing much. Thank God she did…it is a truly excellent album and I have yet to meet anyone else who knew of it before I played it for them.

Here’s a few good songs…but they are all good. It’s hard to just pick one.

Outfit Post : Sunday Outing

On Sunday, Brad and I went to Jim Thorpe. The high temp was in the 50s, which was like a heat wave in NEPA these days. Basically, it meant I could comfortably wear a lighter jacket and flats without socks or tights. I purchased these denim capris from Forever 21 a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting for a pick-up in the weather to wear them. They are comfortable and have a great shape to them. The tailored and high-waisted look is something I really love these days. I can’t lie, I’ve become a bit curvier recently. So it’s important to work with that.

I wore the Forever 21 capris with a white tee, a thrifted sleeveless blouse, and flats from Payless I’ve had since Freshmen year of college.

One for the books…

I am not sure if I can accurately describe the weekend without completely downgrading how amazing it was. I knew it was going to be a busy one, but there ended up being a few surprises along the way. To top it off, everything turned out better than I could’ve hoped.

On Friday, Brad and I had plans to see a friend’s art display for First Friday. We stuck with that plan, but I found out about a couple of bands playing a show while I was at work. My sister told me that Starfucker would be playing at a bar I’ve been wanting to go to for a while. I just got into the band about a couple of weeks ago, thanks to Pandora radio, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see them for 8 dollars! They played with an excellent Norwegian band, Casiokids.  Amazing music, intimate setting, dancing so hard (my neck still hurts from whippin’ my hair back and forth), forgetting all of the world’s woes. That is what a show should be…and I didn’t even know I would be experiencing something like that when I woke up in the morning.

Despite being insanely exhausted come Saturday, we still managed to have another excellent day. I was up earlier than I would like to spend some quality time with my sister. No pictures of that, unfortunately. But my friend Ed, who is leaving for Texas in two weeks (more on that later…), threw a classic party that night. Tons of drinking games and laughing and classic moments. I wish we did this kind of thing more often.

It’s finally starting to get nice and warm up a little for Spring, so Brad and I went to Jim Thorpe for the afternoon. It was super quiet and got chilly quickly, but we still managed to get some pictures and enjoy a day outside. I just cannot wait until the trees and plants begin to bloom. I’m sick of every place looking like a wasteland. I am bored with the brittle and bare tree branches and overcast skies.

As I said…words just simply cannot describe the weekend. I feel like I’m putting it to shame with this silly post. I like these times. I’m tired and sore but I’ve never felt better. Sometimes it’s easy to get trapped in the dull and boring 9-5 lifestyle, to let myself get tired and lazy and boring. But this weekend reminded me that I’m still in my early 20s. I absolutely can have fun with friends and stay out late and dance my butt off. And I should. I know it’s silly to say those things, because they seem obvious. But when you are working for the weekend, it’s so easy to forget yourself.

This time, I’ll remember that.

Friday has arrived!

I’m quite excited the weekend is already here. Wasn’t it just Monday?  No complaints coming from me, though…I’m happy it was a speedy and painless week. Despite all sorts of weather rumors, this weekend should be a good one. It’s jam-packed with activities and friends and trying some new things and exploring. The anti-last weekend. But that sounds quite alright with me. I love having things to look forward to…

As my weekend gift to you, I leave you with a sad but gorgeous tune I haven’t been able to stop listening to this week. This song appeared in the movie It’s Kind of a Funny Story, which I watched again this week and still very much highly recommend! Have a great weekend!

Outfit Post : Pajama Chic

IMG_5193

The first day of Spring was 10 days ago, but it has yet to actually arrive (And why yes! They are calling for a snowstorm this Friday!). This past Saturday was especially chilly, but all of my jeans were in the hamper, and I had to make due with some winter-unfriendly clothing. I call this outfit “pajama chic”. I didn’t really want to look like I was in pajamas, but I had a limited supply of warm clothing in my overnight bag this weekend. Despite that, the look sort of worked anyways. I’m wearing a Target tee under a Gap sweater. The pants, boots, and sunglasses are from Forever 21. I received the pants and sunglasses in the mail on Friday. I bought both items the previous Friday, when they were donating 100% of each dollar to Japan (along with a few other goodies sure to make their way onto the blog soon enough). I can’t wait to wear these pants again on a breezy warm day with some oversized tanks or gauzy t-shirts.

I’m officially sick of the cold weather. I’m ready to bust out and rock all the skirts and shorts and capris and dresses that I’ve been purchasing in the last few months. I’ve come to the realization that I don’t ever shop for winter. My gear for cold weather is everything I’d wear any other season of the year with a cardigan over top or some thermals underneath. It’s safe to say that I am a Spring/Summer/Fall girl. I’d be quite content if winter lasted only a month…(I don’t mind it at first, but it gets old fast).

Anyway, I’m going to try and incorporate an outfit post regularly. In college, getting dressed was probably my favorite part of the day. I don’t get to wear whatever I want to work, so the weekends are prime ME time. Creating outfits is a big part of who I am, so I’d like to share it when I have the opportunity to. And with the weather (hopefully) warming up, I will have more creative freedom
and less drowning in and hiding behind a long, black, puffy jacket.
