Shoe Lust : ModCloth

For many, shoes are a guilty pleasure. There are girls who will fess up to owning more pairs than they need, spending obscene amounts on pairs that they’ll never wear again, and needing extra closet space just for their shoes. I have never been this way. With that being said, I do adore shoes. It’s just that I’ve always stuck with basic colors and styles (simple flats, Chucks, and a few different neutral boots) that go with any and everything. Okay, I DO have a few guilty pleasure pairs (not very practical, I know). And I certainly long for some shoes that I’ll never have, that I can’t afford with my kind of budget. ModCloth’s shoes are somewhere in between.  They aren’t Louboutins or Jimmy Choos by any means (we’re talking hundreds+ dollas for them suckas), but they aren’t Payless or Target, the stores I frequent the most for shoes under 30 bucks (what can I say? I’m a bargain hunter, I still live at home, and I’m extremely far from rich). It’s hard for me to spend more than 50 bucks on a pair of shoes, because I won’t even spend that much on a pair of jeans that I’d wear everyday (again, I’m cheap!).
But they’re more attainable. And cute. And seemingly comfortable and…well…that’s what window shopping is all about.

Sensing a pattern here? Easy breezy cutesy shoes, with comfortable heels, and an affinity for t-straps. If I got any of these shoes, I’d probably get the last pair because I know I would wear them. But I love heels. I feel so feminine in them, and I adore them on everyone else. Unfortunately,  I’ve always felt too tall, awkward, and uncomfortable over time. Above, the heels are mostly thick, seemingly everyday. My favorite pair? Numero uno. They would go with any and everything. Maybe one day I’ll feel confident enough to treat myself…

Weekend

I had a quaint, quiet, perfect little weekend. After a stressful week (I made it stressful, that’s what I do),  it was so nice to find myself with an open-book weekend. I always love plans and events and things to look forward to, but it’s so important to take it easy as often as possible. Another bonus was having the whole weekend to spend with Brad…cuddling is an instant mood booster. I know it’s silly, and we don’t really have a long distance relationship compared to other people, but it’s frustrating to be apart from someone so important to you. Especially when you know their presence would make any day easier/better. Stupid schedules/living situations/work locales/gas prices. Anyway…

Weekend: Catching up with friends for drinks at the coziest, cutest bar. Sleeping in. Diner breakfast. Playing with a Konica camera. Enjoying bare legs and sunshine. Words with Friends. Lindemans Peche Lambic beer. 30 Rock marathons. Iced Caramel Macchiato. Multiple family dinners. Conversation. Cuddling. Laughing.

Here are some photos of weekend activities via Instagram for the iPhone…

  3. The old-school Konica camera (possibly a birthday present) I played with this weekend!
  4. The rustling of green leaves…one of the most peaceful things
  5. An amazing iced caramel macchiato
  6. Swingin’

As always, I’ll be checkin’ off the days until Friday (so sad, I know). The countdown begins for my week-long vacation in July, though! In exactly two months, I will be lounging on the beach. Good things to look forward to, always…

Friday

It’s here! It’s here! We survived!

All I care about is relaxing and shutting my brain off for a couple of days. That’s all I intend to do. Enjoy yours!

Happy List

nightdriveblur

The week is almost over, and I have two days of lounging and relaxing stress-free to look forward to! Unfortunately, I fear the work days are going to go a little slow. But, I’ve already tackled the majority of the week! It’s all about perspective. So, it calls for a list of happy things…

  • The blossoms on the trees (they won’t be there much longer!)
  • Used book sales/stores. I always find good reads (Current reading material).
  • 30 minutes on the elliptical listening to the Indie Dance station on Pandora Radio
  • Looking back at old photos (memories, and feeling slightly proud of some of my work)
  • Vacation countdown (64 days…46 of those that I have to work!)
  • Leftover Easter candy
  • I get to wake up next to Brad in a couple of days!
  • Helpful people (thanks to a kind woman, I was able to order some cheap extra pairs of glasses from Zenni Optical finally)
  • My birthday (not that I celebrate much) is in two weeks
  • New music to obsess over (even if it’s Glee covers)

Despite some issues along the way, I’ve been able to stay mostly positive. That’s all you really can do. Just look for the good in everything. Stressing and worrying only makes things worse…I’m learning that the hard way.

We’re almost there, guys! Stay strong!

Tune-Yards

Thanks to my sister, I could not stop playing a couple of songs this weekend. I don’t know much about Tune-Yards, but I can say the music is fun and funky and Merrill Garbus’ voice amazes me. Not going to lie, when I found out it was a woman singing…I was a little blown away. But that’s why I love it! Unique voices can usually seal the deal for me, especially when it comes to women. I’m not one for Christina Aguilera belting or Colbie Caillat whispering. I need something different. And this does it for me.

The song above is a particular favorite, for it’s strong beats and passion (and the video is fun and colorful!).
Below is a different sort of passion…a bit sensual, funky, and slow.

Girl Crush: Emma Stone

Pretty sure I’ve gushed about Emma Stone in the past. But she’s so fantastic, I had to have another go at it. Emma Stone just seems cool. Funny, smart, down to earth…all of this seems true for her. That personality is super important. But I’m not gonna lie…she’s ridiculously gorgeous! And what’s more, she can rock pretty much every hair color, something I am incredibly jealous of.

Emma Stone is currently in a platinum blonde phase (because of this), and I LOVE it. She looks feminine and womanly, a bit more mature, yet fun and sexy! But she looks fantastic with any look, and I’m so excited to see how her career goes. I hope she’s around for a long time.

The Much Too Short Weekend

I may only have to work 4 hours on a Saturday, but sometimes it can feel like forever. And when it does, the weekend seems a lot shorter. I’m already back at work, and I literally just left the place. I’m thankful I’ll have the next two weekends off. That’s why I can’t complain much. It’s only every few weeks that I have to give up that morning. Once it’s over, I don’t have to think about it for a while.

Regardless, it’s always important to make the best of whatever time I have to myself. I spent a lovely night and day with Brad.

Saturday evening, we walked around the tiny campus of my Alma Mater, King’s College. This month (holy macaroni, it’s MAY already!), marks the two year anniversary of me graduating. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. Sometimes, I feel like I’m on this long summer break, waiting to go back. I miss it all the time. Walking around the campus was nice, but part of me definitely felt like it was really over. Maybe it’s because everyone I loved there left with me. Regardless, it was always such a beautiful and peaceful place in the Spring.

We topped off the night with pizza, wings, and beer…you can’t go wrong. Spent Sunday around flea markets and yard sales. It was a quaint and pleasant break from a hectic week. I’ll admit it…I’m nervous for this week to come. I am already counting down the days ‘til next weekend, and I do hate that I wish away the majority of my week for two days of freedom. But what can you do? Whatever helps you through the tough times, I guess. Here’s hoping you all have a wonderful and stress-free week!
