Halloween

I haven’t celebrated Halloween in years. Like…lots of years. I dressed up a couple times in college but I never took it seriously or cared. I’d throw something together last minute that was completely half-assed. But whatever. I kinda wanted to do something this year. It took a long time to settle on a costume (and now I’m dying to try/be so many things next year) and figure out what exactly we’d be doing…but it was a good weekend.

For starters, I read about a Zombie Walk in downtown Wilkes-Barre and got really curious. It wasn’t the biggest crowd, but I really enjoyed seeing people get in the holiday spirit (and I personally would love to do this sometime). Super cool, and way better in person.

I went out for a bit on Saturday, but the magic happened Sunday. As I mentioned before, my sister loves to decorate. And they went all out, like…really ALL OUT. But it was so much fun to hand out candy, drink caramel apple martinis, eat Chinese takeout, and enjoy the holiday.

I am so bummed to go back to the real world (and a 6 day work week, nonetheless). Weekend, you are so fantastic.

P.S. If you don’t know my costume, I settled on a female version of one of my favorite characters, V (from V for Vendetta).

Culture

I need to get out of here. I need to see the world. I want to travel, even if it’s not that far. I’m heavily contemplating visiting my sister in Philadelphia this weekend. It’s always like a mini-vacation…an escape from my normal life, and a look at what it could be. I’ve always loved my home, and I’m fine with how I grew up. I am lucky that I got to go to London and experience something so fantastic on my own. I didn’t mind going to school 30 minutes away from where I grew up (I loved my college experience, miss it, and wouldn’t change it for the world). But…I’m getting sick of this place now.

Time to get away.

Impatience

Let’s face it. Our world is obsessed with all things digital. We want whatever we want fast. Digital cameras are such a fantastic invention. When you take a picture, you can check it right away (and retake the photo if one or all objects are off until you get it right) and immediately upload it so that it can be dispersed as quickly as possible. That’s why it’s so rough to be in love with quite a few film cameras…especially my newbie. I have to wait until I’m done with the whole roll to get it developed and wait for that to be finished so I can finally see the picture. But it’s the element of surprise that always makes it that much better I suppose. I’m getting myself psyched by checking out photos albums on the LOMO site. Here are a few of my favorites…

Things to Get Excited About

Because I haven’t been able to get out of the house much, I’ve found it necessary to get excited about the little things. Luckily, this isn’t hard. So, without further ado, the little things that have kept me going…

  • My brown straw fedora. Wore it all day today, even though I only got out of the house for a little while, to satiate my root beer float craving…003
  • Thom Yorke’s gorgeous voice in…well, anything. I highly recommend the song Reckoner off of the latest Radiohead album…hauntingly gorgeous. It makes me want to take a ride on a cloud on a rainy day over beautiful valleys.
  • Loading my Holga all by myself, taking a few pictures with my sister in the backyard, and searching for local places that will develop the film. I feel productive…I should be using this energy to find a job.
  • iWin’s huge selection of free full-length time management games.

  • The adorable Hayley Williams of Paramore…who I will be seeing live in less than a week. If only I could run into her…but I’d just freak out.

I go back to work tomorrow. Once I find out my schedule, I can’t start planning out my week again. There’s just so much going on, I feel. And not everyone is on the same page. But I have a bunch of ideas, so hopefully one or two or all of them will end up working out.

My parents surprised me with this gem.
A new laptop.
Smaller, sleeker.
More space (which is good considering I love music, pictures, and the occasional video game).
Webcam so that I can finally chat it up with my sister when she's in Philly, or any of my webcam-having friends.
Light, easy to use, and a new baby to love and make my own.
I'll be honest...I'm gonna miss my old beast.
To boot, I have to get an external hard drive from Best Buy or something and move all of my stuff over here. And I'm new to Vista.
But it seems pretty perfect. To start a new chapter with a new technological sidekick to carry me through.
