Snowy, Snowy Night

Last night, we got quite a few inches of snow. Lou, Brad’s housemate, had been talking about prepping for it for a couple of days. In Brad and Lou language, that means stocking up on plenty of beer and food.
I worked until 3:45 yesterday, so I made it out and home just in time to watch the snow start to fall. And even though I had to be up at 5 a.m. today, I still enjoyed a snowed-in night with people (and a puppy) I love.

To make life easier when we were upstairs, far from the fridge, Brad and Lou shoveled snow into a cooler so they could keep cold beer in between the bedrooms and the office. Smart. We also listened to some smooth tunes and ate a delicious stir-fry the guys made from scratch. It was so darn good. The sauce was amazing, better than what I’d buy from a bottle. I just wish I had rice to sop it up. I also wish we had Christmas music, because it would’ve been perfect last night. I’m running out of opportunities to listen to Christmas music, and I need the spirit!

These final photos, aside from the one of Brad and I, show the significant amount of snow that had fallen. That amazing quiet was surrounding us, and it was so beautiful. The final picture of Cali was taken by Brad. He got some really funny photos, but it was dark and she’s dark so I had to lighten a lot of them. This one is my favorite.
She looks so cute all snowy and silly.

Before I headed to bed, we walked to Turkey Hill, which is about a block away, not even, to grab some cupcakes and candy. It was fun to walk in the snow and get some fresh air, even though Lou had to bring Cali home (her paws were so cold) halfway and my cheeks are still red from the stinging cold. It was a great night, though, and I look forward to more snowed-in moments in the wintery months to come.

Snow/Fall

snow2

See what I did there? It’s still Fall, but it snowed in NEPA last night. The roads are fine, but it’s super chilly today, so it’s sticking on the trees and grass. I came home from Brad’s to find our gourds covered in snow, and it was the strangest sight. I had to take some photos of this hybrid of seasons to share on the blog!

I have a love-hate relationship with snow, but it’s mostly verging on hate (like, 80%). It’s beautiful when it first falls, but it’s freezing, sloppy, a pain in the butt to drive in, and don’t forget the shoveling (not necessary today, but still) and car defrosting/cleaning (which did happen, especially since I left for work before 5 AM this morning).
Still, it’s beautiful for a little while, so I guess I can appreciate that!

Oh, and obligatory adorable Artie shot.

A Weekend to (Barely) Remember…

Halloween is today, but I had to celebrate this past weekend, as “real life” takes over on Mondays. It was an excellent weekend. I dressed up both Friday and Saturday, but Saturday was the less awkward of the two. More people in costume. Yay!
Not that I cared…I loved being in costume and I wish I could do it more often. Who doesn’t like to play dress up?

I didn’t bring my camera and had to rely on my iPhone. But we were too busy having fun to take many photos anyways.
But let’s not forget the craziest part of the weekend, the snow. We spent most of Saturday watching the flakes fall in our pajamas until we were ready to go out. I didn’t really appreciate the cold, wintery weather (especially in terms of my costume), but it was nice to stay cozy and warm indoors and watch the huge flakes fall (I think we got about 6 inches?).

Hope everyone had an excellent weekend. Here’s to a great week! And, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

State of Emergency

So, my hometown is in a state of emergency due to the inclement weather. I had to take a personal day because my family forbade me to drive the 20 minute commute to work. And also because I am scared to death of this weather (and rightfully so, because I don’t think places forbid people from driving unless it’s an emergency just because they feel like it). Any guilty feelings I had about it have been pushed aside because I am literally trapped in the house. It won’t stop snowing, which I am completely surprised by. When I got out of work early yesterday, there was some slush, nothing to worry about. I was able to get to Blockbuster and the Wine & Spirits store. Now I wouldn’t even risk leaving the house. I am hoping this stops so I can return to my regularly scheduled life tomorrow. Safely.

Anywho, I am the only person in my house who isn’t napping. Needless to say, I am super bored.
nerdIs it wrong that I love fake glasses? These are from my friend Ed, who got a real pair of his own and decided to pass these down to me, at least for a little while. I’m sure people out there hate them and think their all hipster-trendy-fake-bullshit. But hey! To each their own. Some people like huge earrings and necklaces. Some wear bracelets and rings. I’ll wear these on occasion. It’s just another accessory. And they also make my quiet life inside the snow globe a little less boring…for now…

Snow

Got out of work early today. Apparently, the weather is only going to get worse, but every news channel has something different to say. We’ll never know until it happens.

The only thing I can control is how I spend my night. And this one will be spent with the sis, drinking wine, watching The September Issue and Whip It!, and relaxing. And that sounds perfect to me.

Early Dismissal

It was like being in school all over again. I was a total grump driving to work today in terribly snowy conditions, especially since we were told to call the main branch line and hear for a delay. But luckily, we got out for 11 a.m. I had a total of two members come in with transactions. It was completely dead.

But anyways, I’m home now. Went outside to take some pictures, but there was only so much of the white and cold I could take…

In other news, I received a  package from Fred Flare today. Once upon a time, I craved a LOMO Clear Action Sampler. Well, now I have one. The thing about Lomography cameras are that they are so simple and so light and so…plastic, they almost seem completely complicated in comparison to big and fancy digital cameras. I have my first roll of film and took some test shots. The first roll is always an experiment. But the best part is, I can drop this film off at Wal-Mart and have it ready in a day, as opposed to my 120 Holga film, which gets dropped off a half hour away from home and usually takes up to two weeks for who knows what reason. Speaking of, expect to see some in the next week or so.  Finally dropped off a roll from September….don’t really remember what the pictures are of, but that’s the fun part!

Anyway, I’m off to enjoy the fact that I’d still be working for another 3+ hours. Gonna watch some movies, lounge around, maybe play some Wii, eat junk food, listen to music, drink wine. Man, I miss being in college. We could’ve had so much fun with this. I need to stop being nostalgic. And also, I need to stop rambling. Enjoy your day, snowed in or not!

Remedy

I was very grumpy when I woke up this morning. Unreturned phone calls/texts, strong winds, rainy slush, and waking up earlier than I wanted to all factored in.

So I made the decision to pick up a Hot Chocolate from Dunkin’ Donuts. I don’t know what it is about hot cocoa but…it was like my mood instantly changed. It’s delicious and warm and it almost feels wrong to drink because it’s chocolate…but it’s so right.

I suggest that, even if you’re in a good mood, you pick up or make some hot chocolate tonight. Because it might change your life.

I still find you dashing.

Interview is done. Even though I hated rolling out of bed before 8 am (I know, I know, some of you have to do it everyday and I’m sorry), I actually love that I’m completely awake and have accomplished some things before noon. I need to start getting up earlier more often.

Today, the world is my oyster. I had the most enjoyable drive to and from the interview playing my Zune and singing along. I love those times by myself when I’m content with the world. Despite the fact that it was snowing, and it’s October…and I frankly don’t find that very cool.snow

The view from my porch

Now, I’m going to do some laundry. I cleaned my room in the hopes that I’ll be rearranging soon and making it into a cozy little haven. I’m also going to paint my toenails blue, watch the latest episode of Glee, and eventually watch movies at Joe’s and hit up the bar I think? Thank God the snow isn’t sticking.
