Christmas

082

As always, Christmas came and went faster than I could comprehend. The last thing I posted before today was my goal to get into the holiday spirit before it was too late. Christmas shopping and crafting and wrapping and music and movies certainly helped. However, I notice that it’s the actual holiday and the traditions it holds, such as dinner on Christmas Eve and watching It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story with my sister, that add the missing link.
It’s on the holiday that I finally feel that joy, relaxation, and spirit.

I cried on Christmas night. I cried because Christmas is over, though my mom always says the season has only just begun (despite what the stores tell you, it’s okay to continue celebrating and gifting and being merry). But really, I think I cried because I left my home that evening (I had work at 5 a.m. the day after Christmas) for Brad’s. And while it was great to give each other our presents under his silly beer bottle-topped Christmas tree, I think I was hit with that realization of growing up and things changing. Work the next day, away from my parents and sister, all back to reality.

My sister and I have had a tradition for as long as I can remember. Growing up, we shared a bed and, even when we finally got separate twin beds, we shared a room. It was only in 2004, the year we moved out of the house, that we got separate rooms. But Christmas isn’t meant for separate rooms, so we would move my mattress into her bedroom and we’d wrap presents and watch A Christmas Story and set an alarm so we could sneak out and check out the goodies underneath the tree and annoy our parents. As we’ve gotten older, we still sleep in the same room and bed, but we stay up later, we sleep longer, we don’t really check the tree.

It was the first year I realized that I am getting closer to a future without these kinds of Christmas Eves. Though there are no plans for nuptials or babies on the way, eventually I will have my own place to live, a husband, some kids…if all goes well, of course…and these traditions will disappear in favor of new ones. I will always cherish them, and I can only hope that (if I am lucky to have them) my future children share the same excitement as my sister and I have all these years. There’s no specific time that my current traditions will stop, but I’m so close to it. I know it’s coming.

I guess the best part is, no matter what, Christmas will be about family.

Hello again!!

It’s been a crazy little while. After my vacation, I had a rough time getting back into a sleep pattern and I’m still working on it. Work has been nuts. Friends are coming back into town or leaving town. People are getting engaged or married. Ya know…life!

I’m excited to get back to the bloggin’…I’ve missed it, but I’ve been putting it off. I have a new Recent Reads coming up for you guys tomorrow (I’m behind on the challenge again because life interfered with reading as well!) and some new nail art stuff to share…my love for nail polish just keeps on growin’. I have some other little things up my sleeves…I just want to get back to this creative release.
For now, I wanted to share some iPhone photos from the past couple of weeks.

Grapefruit juice Mimosa.
“Just the essentials.” Can’t leave Target without a few frivolous purchases…in this case, the nail polish (Essie’s Naughty Nautical) and Spring Breakers on DVD (I’ve already watched it twice in one week).
I cannot say no to free doughnuts…especially with strawberry frosting!
Heat wave equals shorts! I am in love with these comfy yet classy shorts from Old Navy.
I’ve had CafĂ© Bustelo twice in my life…and both times were absolutely excellent. I want to buy my own container!
Schmutz is the cutest dog in the world…that sleepy face.
Happy coincidence…Naughty Nautical matches one of my favorite skirts. Perhaps some pattern-inspired nail art is in the works.
Maria and I ran after an ice cream truck(van) on Saturday at a graduation party. Pink icy treats!
Absolute new favorite creamer. Yum.

Friday, Already?!?!?!?!

Normally, I’d be pretty stoked about Friday arriving. But, of course, this time I’m not.
I can’t believe how much the week has flown by. And granted I have all of today and the weekend to still relax and stay out of the work mindset, I can’t believe the majority of vacation is over. It went by soooo fast.

Here’s a bunch of photos from the past week. It’s been a blast. Swimming, lots of good food, a crazy night of excess, the Hometown Auction (that’s where I got the books and goodies), and a wonderfully hot 4th spent in the pool with Brad’s family. Excellent.

I’m so not ready to say goodbye to all of this, so I’m going to try my best not to look too far ahead.

A Long and Lovely (Birthday) Weekend

056

I had a fantastic three-day weekend, hence me posting about it today, Tuesday!
This past Sunday, I turned 26. Late 20s, here I am! Brad has been super-awesome with my last two birthdays. Not sure if anything will ever top the 20s extravaganza of last year, but this year we did a brunch party. Mimosas, Bloody Marys, the best bagels, yogurt parfait station (courtesy of my sister) and so much more. And, as always, the lovely people in my life joined together for laughs and good times.

We had a few tables set up together in the backyard with little cacti and succulents but it ended up raining most of the day. We utilized the set up for about 2 hours altogether? But it was still a nice touch and we still have the precious little plants.

I’m an extremely lucky girl. My friends got me some nail polish and a bunch of Ulta gift cards because they know me all too well.
Brad and Lauren also acknowledged my sudden and extreme obsession with Adventure Time. I have some really awesome and thoughtful people in my life. Sometimes it takes a silly party to remember how much people know you and how many good folks in your life you have, but I never want to forget.

As for the rest of the weekend, I spent lots of time with Brad, eating Chinese food and drinking mimosas and just enjoying the good, lazy life.
Back to reality today. But hopefully with a new year (for me) comes a new outlook.
