I waited too long to get a hold of this record. It is pretty awesome, from start to finish. Though summer is almost ending, it’s kind of the perfect album for running around on the beach and cruising the streets with the windows down (much like my other favorite summer 2010 album).
There’s so much to love. A lot of it is very loud and fun and rock and roll and a bit punk and a little electronic. I don’t even know how to categorize it.
But Rolling Stone recommends you Buy This Now, and I totally agree.
“I did everything I could to make you happy. I participated in all your protests, supported your stupid little blog, got a Bowflex. Wore color contacts to match your dresses. Whatever your eyes caught I bought, still we fought. Like Ike and Tina, but in reverse ‘cuz you’re so crazy, girl.”
I am obsessed with music in general lately. I’ve been getting into some great bands, as well as enjoying the ones I already know and love. It’s that time of year when you can drive with the windows down and blast some great tunes.
Lately, I can’t stop listening to Yeasayer, especially their new album Odd Blood. I love electronic-y fun music that I can dance to or chill out or maybe even feel like I’m tripping to, and this album has all of that.
This song is a particular favorite, but it changes with the day. I just had to share.
I’ve liked Hot Chip for about 2 years now. I got a late start, with Made in the Dark being the first album I’d heard of theirs (thanks to WRKC, my college’s radio station, which I miss so much because I got cool music all the time for free). Afterwards, I got the rest of their albums and fell even harder.
I love my fair share of mellow, melancholy, folksy music, but for some reason, I got into this electropop kick back in my junior year of college and that was it. It’s a major staple in my music tastes. But this is about Hot Chip…
I honestly believe they have something for everyone, especially in Made in the Dark, which carries some fantastic simple sad songs. But really, put them on if you wanna have a blast and dance all night in neon tights with a lightening bolt painted over your eye.
I think what intrigues me even more about them is…well, look! They are just a bunch of British men, pretty average looking, but they make these incredibly fresh beats. Which brings me to their latest album, One Life Stand. When I got my hands on it, I was so excited and consequently let down. There was something missing. But on a second listen, and the viewing of the video below, I might be changing my mind. I’ll still love them regardless. And Joe Goddard’s voice is heavenly, even when it’s being manipulated so.
Oh, and if this electro-craziness isn’t your style, check out this song. I love how beautiful and sad it is.
Caleb Followill’s hotness is painful for me. His voice couldn’t be any sexier, no matter what he sings about. Plus, he has amazing style and looks so good in tight jeans.
I love Kings of Leon. I love every album. I’m happy for them, that they are finally achieving success in America. However, I don’t think most of the fans realize they have more than two songs. We listen to the radio at work and I pretty much hate “Use Somebody” at this point. But that won’t keep me from being a fan. I saw them live November 2008 and it was honestly the greatest show I’ve been to, and in the Electric Factory in Philadelphia so it was up close and personal. Oh yeah…and they are freaking hot. And below are photos thanks to Maria during the concert!!!
{This one is probably my favorite. Just a great concert shot}
Me, my bfffffffffffffff, and my sister :) My dad came too, but he has a bad knee so he sat upstairs.
How often do you find an album that you can listen to and enjoy every single track on it? It’s so rare, which sucks. But luckily, I have some choice CDs I can play the whole way through (though I am partial to shuffling) and rock out to every single song.
Santogold – Santogold (Now Santigold)
As Tall As Lions – As Tall As Lions
Carina Round – The Disconnection
Coldplay – Parachutes
Fiona Apple – Tidal
Klaxons – Myths of the Near Future (Where have they been? I miss them so.)
New Young Pony Club – Fantastic Playroom
Nelly Furtado – Woah, Nelly!
Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind
Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend
Sia – Colour the Small One
Say Anything – …is a Real Boy
And then, of course there are the artists that make music I always like:
Kings of Leon
Radiohead
M.I.A.
Minus the Bear
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Shins
Björk
M.I.A.
Hot Chip
I know some of the albums I listed above are the only one’s the artists have. Two of them will be releasing new albums this year. One of them is workin’ on new stuff. I’m hoping they can keep me as ecstatic as I am.
Seriously. Radiohead and frontrunner Thom Yorke never cease to amaze me. The music is so chaotic, and yet it makes complete sense. It’s genius. When I listen to their (or his) music, my mind gets a creative surge and I can’t help but feel any and every emotion the songs may evoke. I can’t even take it. It’s been nearly a decade since I fell in love and I have yet to fall out. In fact, I just keep falling deeper.
Thank you, guys. You make my life just a little bit better everytime.
How come music is the best thing that ever happened ever? Seriously. No matter how I feel in life, the right song can make me forget about everything shitty in my life.
You’ve probably heard these songs before. They have a familiarity about them (probably because Phoenix’s tune is on a car commercial). Completely different sounds, but I love them both.
Two of my favorite songs of all time are by the same artist: Cursive.
I enjoy their music overall, but it’s these two songs that keep them in a list of favorites. Both are so in depth and intense and involved that I can imagine each story unfold.
Because of this song, I never see Pinocchio the same way. But it’s not a bad thing. I love the story it creates in my head.
I do love “Driftwood” but “The Recluse” is pretty much my favorite song of all time. I could listen to it on repeat for hours. Or one hour. And I’ve actually done it before (teehee). I built this whole story around the song. I love that a beat and some amazing lyrics can paint a picture in my mind. That truly makes a good song.
I’m going to put some more thought into it and compile a list of my favorite songs. I’ll share them with you soon.
It’s true. Music is such a wonderful thing. You can be in the worst of moods and, with the right song, you’ll find yourself jumping around, dancing, and singing.

Try and watch this without dancing like a fiend. Friendly Fires just might be one of my new favorite bands.
Lykke Li’s voice is outstanding. Check out this one too. She sounds like a flute sometimes, I can’t help but fall in love.
Oh and, New Young Pony Club’s album has been a stand-by for me since winter of 2007. Their amazing, dance-y, poppy songs are only just getting play on commercials now. This one is one of the bests.
Last night was the Paramore/No Doubt concert, though I should just call it the No Doubt Reunion Tour Concert. I have loved No Doubt for a long time now, but I had completely forgotten this (probably due to their lack of…well, being a unit for a while now) until they rocked my socks off last night. I jumped, danced, sang, and screamed despite the fact that I was suffering from a head cold (still am).
What was so great about this concert was that I got to see 3 ladies shake it and sing their hearts out on stage. No lip synching. No headset. Just singing and yelling their fabulous hearts out.
I am officially done with everything I had to do class-wise. Now I just have to cross my fingers and hope to God I actually do graduate. I will be extrememly sad if I can't. There are some financial issues that are blocking 6 much-needed credits and I am very upset about it. I've tried not to think about it that much, and I believe everything will work out and God will help me on this.
Anyway, I had a little bit too much fun last night, and it was, I believe, the 4th night within the past week that I stayed up until about 4 AM. Yes, the party don't stop til 4 in the mooooo-nin'. And I could've gone on and on but I'm dead today.
A few good things: 1) I have lawn seats with my lovely sister to see Paramore and No Doubt in NJ this summer! it only cost 15 bucks and we are bound to be dancing up and down in the grass. This pleases me. 2) I have accepted an invitation to an old friend's beach house for a couple days at the end of June with A LOT of people I really love and miss, mostly friends who have already graduated. 3) Though I am sad in a way because its bittersweet, I made a lovely new guy friend who unfortunately packed up for home today, but who I spent most of the...hmm...5 days we knew each other texting rediculously to one another and hanging out any chance we could. I love making new friends, I just wish I had had more time with all of the new people who have recently entered my life. 4)My sister came to visit on Sunday because she FINALLY got her driver's license on Saturday and we spent the day perusing things at the mall and eating Taco Bell and eventually exchanging music, music that I happen to love by the way!
There's so much more that I love right now than hate and feel stressed about. I'll be honest...not graduating with all of my friends, or being able to walk in Wachovia and such will be really disappointing. But its all in God's hands at this point. I have to hope the check gets cashed stat and the credits make it over in time...my deadline is next Tuesday. Pray for me, people! I just want the new chapter of my life to arrive and with a little bit of ease and dignity.
And speaking of great music...I love this song and I cannot get enough of it!
I am an enormous fan of Kings of Leon. I got to see them live last November, and I have to admit I'm frightened I won't get to see them again...word is, they are selling out arenas, and even Madison Square Garden.
I know a lot of fans are disappointed by this sudden rush of fame and popularity. I myself am usually a selfish music lover...I can try and hoard it all to myself. But Kings of Leon is the one thing I've actually been happy to hear getting big. The Followill family are a bunch of talented boys. Their latest album, Only By the Night came out this past fall and it is the first one to actually make an impact in the United States. Did I mention it's their FOURTH album? They are gigantic outside of the US.
Anyway, they are definitely on a different, unique, and still classic level. They deserve a lot of the attention that bands like U2, Coldplay, and Radiohead got over years of hard work. Radiohead is a perfect example of how I think Kings of Leon will be. It's hard to find someone who doesn't know their name. But even still, not many people like them or maybe even know their songs. Kings of Leon is similar. They are splashed on rock magazine covers and they have won the coveted Grammy, but that doesn't mean they will be blaring on mainstream radio anytime soon.
So I stand by my gorgeous, talented men, whether they blow up or not. And every album has a bit of different flare while still being perfectly Followillian. The only thing that upsets me is...well...
I can share the music...but I don't wanna share the man.
