Colours and Colours and Colours and Colours

As much as I love painting my nails and doing nail art, I find I have a hard time coming up with color combinations.
Sometimes what I think will look good and compliment each other doesn’t actually work out. And when you have 100+ polishes and counting, it’s easy to get frustrated and settle instead of digging through the archives.

But lately I’ve been pulling inspiration from around me.

This Martha Stewart notebook served as inspiration both in color and in design.
I used OPI’s My Vampire is Buff as the base.
Then I did a polka dot ombre with:
OPI’s Call Me Gwen-ever
Wet N Wild Wild Shine’s Sunny Side Up
Urban Outfitters brand’s Hangover (no longer available)
Parfois Banana Cream

This was the result. I was so pleased with how it worked out!

While pondering what to do with my nails one night, I spotted these page flags on the kitchen table. My sister bought them for my mom.
I loved the colors…it’s yet again another ombre feel, but the addition of the greens makes it stand out a bit. I used…

Essie’s Naughty Nautical
OPI’s No Room for the Blues
Julep’s Bess
OPI’s Did It On ‘Em
OPI’s Don’t Talk Bach to Me

I decided to try my hand at gingham nails. I much prefer them in just Naughty Nautical or Bess, but it was still a decent first try.

Finally (but not forever), I was inspired by these awesome cropped pants I bought at Target on sale. The purple isn’t on point in this picture, but it translated well once the nail art was done.

Once again, I used OPI’s My Vampire is Buff as a base. It is an excellent off-white crème. Then I used three jellies from the Sunsational collection from China Glaze. They are excellent, and you can buy the set of them here.
Purple: Are You Jelly?
Blue: Isle See You Later
Green: Keepin’ it Teal

Then I used Sally Hansen’s Black Out to waterspot the nails (what a process). CutePolish and Chelsea King have great tutorials on this.

I wasn’t especially proud of these…until I got them next to the pants!

Dead ringer if I say so myself!

It’s so much fun to take inspiration from the items around you.

I’d Rather Dye…

I am and always have been obsessed with unnatural hair colors. I only dabbled in it once, but hair dye sort of scares me in general. It requires a lot of upkeep and TLC and I’m kinda lazy. Regardless, I’d love to dye my hair something uncommonly pretty. Unfortunately, my job doesn’t really allow it. So I’ll stick to admiring pictures on Pinterest and living vicariously through my friend’s fun hair color changes…for now.

Outfit: May Your Days Be Merry and Bright

outfitfull

This past Friday, I wanted to stay cozy yet cute for a night out. I recently purchased these pants on ASOS. I was having second thoughts, but when I went to check sizes and colors again, the product was no longer in stock. So I maybe bought the last pair? Whatever. They are an amazingly bright pink color that’s even more shocking in person. Slouchy pants are a hit or miss. I’m unsure how I feel about all the slouch going on in this outfit, as I look more like I dug it out of the bottom of my hamper (I didn’t, the sweater was folded and the pants were actually ironed before I put them on…). I had to wear a pair of knit leggings under the pants…not only are they incredibly lightweight, they are kind of sheer too. Despite all of this, I will be wearing them again. Don’t you fret, my pets.

I topped off the outfit with some of my favorite pieces of jewelry. My elephant bling is in constant rotation these days (you’ve seen it before here, but I’ve worn it plenty of times since), but a new addition is this connector ring from Strange Days Jewelry on Etsy. I know the creator and was anxiously waiting for her to add new stuff to the shop. As soon as she posted pieces, I scooped this beautiful ring up. I love it.
Such an interesting piece. Please check out her store and see for yourself!!!

I survived…

Monday, down. 4 more work days to go.

This weekend, what little I had, was pretty great. Nice weather on Saturday, which was perfect for the Bloomsburg Fair. The fair is a yearly thing. I went last year, but before that, it had been a looong time since. Now, I’d like to make it a traditional thing.

My sis, Josh, Brad, and I made it around 6-6:30 on Saturday, so we didn’t have to deal with too horrible a crowd. We got cheesesteaks and corn cobs and blue birch beer and fries and pumpkin ice cream (so insanely good, I’ve been daydreaming about it since…). The weather was perfect. Not hot, not cold. Just right. And I got plenty of cool pictures too…

Sunday, I celebrated Brad’s birthday (which is actually today, Happy Birthday!) with his family. Hibachi dinners are always a good time.

But now it’s back to the grind. I’m thankful for the full weekend I have. I’ll be working the next two Saturdays after, so I better make the best of it!

Oh…and just a reminder. I have a tumblr. I’m addicted to it, though I still love this here blog. My Viewfinder World is dedicated solely to my attempts at photography. Every Sunday, I like to reblog and repost things I’ve seen on all the other amazing tumblrs out there. So if you have one, come check mine out. I’d love to see yours!

No Room for the Blues

noroomfortheblues

Bought a new nail polish last week. OPI brand, No Room for the Blues. I was slightly obsessed with finding a nice matte blue after seeing an interview with MIA for NME.  The color was so unexpected and alluring. I couldn’t stop looking at my toes the first day I painted them. I believe I made the perfect color choice. And it’s a nice change from my usual pinks and dark reds.
